Problem
A large hydrocarbon plume is encompassing residential and commercial property with an estimated 30,000 gallons of TPH-GRO mass remaining, >95% of which is in residual/mobile NAPL phase and submerged below water table surface. Vapor intrusion and drinking water risks remain.
Solution
Following a remedial investigation and feasibility study, GRT recommended implementation of aquifer drawdown to expose the submerged NAPL and an array of SVE wells positioned to reduce source mass and prevent contaminant migration. Bench scale and an initial pilot study tested the efficacy of 100% volatilization.
Result
An on-going, expanded pilot study under an adult Foster Care home is successfully exposing the submerged NAPL for capture and remediation. Evaluation of full-scale treatment technologies capable of cost-effectively addressing high mass removal and vapor treatment rates (< 1000 lbs/day) in underway.
